Starting from the back, Gunn really didn’t have a great game. Of course it’s easy for us to say at home, but it really didn’t look like the most difficult save in the world to make for the first goal.
The standout issue for me was the different levels of intensity in the two teams play. The Germans played a tactical masterclass. They noticed that Scotland were particularly shaky on the right hand side and they really upped the pressure whenever we had the ball there. But the main issue was the fact that they pressured us so hard in our own half that 9/10 times we were losing the ball.
McTominay had absolutely no time on the ball. In contrast, Kroos (who was brilliant by the way, what a player) lured three or four Scots in every time and then sprayed it out wide, or played it through for the Germans who figured out Scotland’s poor attempt at an offside trap.
Poor tackle by Porteous who is absolutely prone to that kind of brainless activity. Hendry looked slow; I’ve seen milk turn faster. Sorely missed Hickey on the right. In my opinion, playing 3 at the back against the Germans is just begging for a drubbing. If you even had 6 Scots in midfield, we’re not winning against that German midfield.
