Chelsea 5-1 Shamrock Rovers: Guiu stars in Stamford Bridge rout
Chelsea sealed top spot in the Conference League table after Marc Guiu's hat-trick helped see off Shamrock Rovers 5-1.
Marc Guiu scored a hat-trick as Chelsea thrashed Shamrock Rovers 5-1 to top the Conference League table with six wins from six games.
Enzo Maresca's side have now won eight consecutive matches in all competitions after making light work of their latest opponents in Europe.
Guiu netted his first after 22 minutes when a defensive mix-up left him with a simple header into an empty net.
Rovers gave their noisy away support something to cheer just four minutes later when Markus Poom's deflected effort brought his side level – but it was a brief reprieve.
Guiu capitalised on another error to round goalkeeper Leon Pohls and put his side back in front, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored his second Chelsea goal to make it 3-1.
And the Spanish striker had earned himself the match ball before half-time, heading smartly into the corner after a well-worked set-piece routine.
Marc Cucurella powered forward to get himself on the scoresheet just shy of the hour mark, slotting home with his right foot to establish a lead that his side easily saw out.
Data Debrief: Guiu makes his Marc
Guiu was Chelsea's star turn when he scored a brace in the 3-1 win over Astana last week, and he took things to a new level against Shamrock on Thursday.
The Spaniard trailed team-mates Joao Felix and Nkunku in the goalscoring stakes in this competition heading into the game but is now the tournament's top marksman, with six.
He punished Shamrock for two errors for his first two goals but also exhibited a striker's instinct of his own to finish both, before nodding home a third inside the first half.
Guiu took five shots in total, racking up an xG of 1.04 as well as 12 touches in the box.
With Premier League action likely to be out of his reach for now, he looks capable of spearheading the Blues' charge in this competition.
