Inter progressed to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia after claiming a 2-0 victory over Udinese at a rainy San Siro on Thursday.

A heavily rotated Inter side dominated proceedings and opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Udinese gave the ball away in midfield. Mehdi Taremi pounced to find Marko Arnautovic, who finished low into the net.

The hosts then doubled their lead just before half-time when Kristjan Asllani scored directly from a corner kick, following a lengthy delay due to a medical emergency in the stands.

In the second half, Inter sought to inflict more damage, and Taremi hit the woodwork when presented with their best chance, but they ultimately did not need further goals.

Nine-time Coppa winners Inter will host Lazio in the next round in February.

Inter have now advanced from the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia on 41 occasions, having played 49 matches in that round.

Only Juventus, with 43 victories, have won more last-16 ties in Italy's national cup competition, though the Bianconeri have competed in 52.

The Nerazzurri are looking to dethrone Juve and win a third Coppa in four seasons, having lifted the trophy twice already under Simone Inzaghi – in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
