'It's a joke' – Flick bemused by Raphinha's omission from FIFA Best XI
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick did not hide his displeasure at Raphinha's surprise exclusion from the FIFA's team of the year.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has labelled the decision to omit Raphinha from FIFA's Best XI this week as "a joke".
Raphinha played a starring role for the Blaugrana during the 2024-25 season, leading them to the LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana titles.
The Brazilian registered 56 goal contributions (34 goals, 22 assists), a total only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (57) could better across Europe's top five leagues.
In addition, only Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes (158) created more chances than Raphinha's 152, but that was not enough to be picked in the team.
Barcelona team-mate Lamine Yamal, Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Paris Saint-Germain's Ousmane Dembele were just some of the attacking players to be included.
The team was selected by national team coaches, captains, journalists and fans, though Flick could not quite believe that his skipper had missed the cut.
"For me it's a joke," said Flick. "I cannot believe he's not in the best XI because after this season he deserved it.
"When you see the matches he played, how many goals he scored, the assists he has, it's unbelievable.
"More, it's influence [he had on] the team. This is really not fair to him."
Raphinha has missed nine games so far this season with a hamstring injury, but he has still managed to register six goals and three assists in 13 outings across all competitions.
Barcelona are top of LaLiga by four points ahead of their trip to Villarreal on Sunday, with this their final league match of 2025.
