Vincent Kompany has warned Bayern Munich's upcoming opponents Wolfsburg that his team will not relax, even as they have little to play for in their remaining Bundesliga games.

Bayern clinched their second successive domestic crown with four games remaining when they beat Stuttgart 4-2 last month.

Since then, they have played out two thrillers against Mainz (4-3 win) and Heidenheim (3-3 draw) in the Bundesliga, also reaching the DFB-Pokal final but falling short in the Champions League, losing 6-5 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

Kompany's side now have little to play for until they face Stuttgart in the domestic cup final on May 23, whereas Saturday's opponents Wolfsburg are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.

They are 16th, only above St. Pauli on goal difference, as they look to avoid automatic relegation and earn a second chance at survival through the relegation-promotion play-off.

But Kompany does not intend to take the game easy, saying: "Of course, we can't underestimate what it's like in the Wolfsburg dressing room when the players and coach watch this press conference; that's exactly what they want, for us to fly along relaxed. 

"But there's no chance! I know what the mood is like. I know what it's like to fight for everything.

"When you fight for survival, for the employees, that's an extra energy. That's what they'll have in this game. 

"And that it is very clear: This tension that we need for this game, we will also live it today in training, we will also live it in this preparation. That's the only priority now."

Bayern's remaining games will also bring the curtain down on Leon Goretzka's glittering career with the club, as he is set to leave as a free agent and has been linked with AC Milan.

And Kompany wants the midfielder to go out on a high, saying: "He can still be very important for us in the end. Now, of course, it will be a bit emotional for him. 

"But we still have the cup final, and I think his priority is only that we win so that we can get an extra title. I think his focus now is that he plays a role in us winning the cup."

Wolfsburg – Christian Eriksen 

Eriksen recently registered his eighth assist of the Bundesliga season – in the previous 10 campaigns, only one Wolfsburg player has managed more in a single season (Mohammed Amoura with nine in 2024-25). 

The last time the Dane provided more assists in a single league campaign was for Tottenham in the Premier League in 2018-19 (12).

Bayern Munich – Michael Olise

Olise has 33 goal involvements in the Bundesliga this season (14 goals, 19 assists), equalling the record for a winger since detailed data collection began in 2004-05, previously set by Jadon Sancho for Borussia Dortmund in 2019-20. 

With Olise and Harry Kane (38), it is the first time since 2004-05 that two players from the same club have reached at least 33 goal involvements in a single Bundesliga season.

MATCH PREDICTION – BAYERN MUNICH WIN 

Bayern have a higher points-per-game average against Wolfsburg (2.54) than against any other side they have faced more than 10 times in the Bundesliga. 

Kompany's side won 8-1 at home in the reverse fixture, which was Wolfsburg's heaviest-ever Bundesliga defeat.

The champions have 83 points from 32 matches, their third-best return at this stage of a Bundesliga season, behind only 2012-13 (85) and 2013-14 (84). 

They are currently on a 25-game unbeaten away run in the Bundesliga (W19 D6) – only between 1985 and 1987 (26 games) and 2012 and 2014 (33 games) have they enjoyed longer such streaks in the competition.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are enduring their worst-ever Bundesliga season with 26 points from 32 matches, though they are currently on a three-game unbeaten run (W1 D2) for the first time since November and December. They are outside the automatic relegation zone for the first time since Matchday 23.
