Chelsea have sacked Liam Rosenior after just 107 days in charge of the club.

The decision comes one day after Chelsea suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League, and four days before their FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.

The Blues have been on a dire run of form of late, losing their last five Premier League games without scoring a single goal, which has seen them drop to seventh in the table.

In fact, Chelsea have won just one of their last eight in all competitions – with that victory coming against League One side Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-final – also getting knocked out of the Champions League in that run.

Rosenior arrived at Stamford Bridge from Strasbourg in January, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal, and he enjoyed a strong start in which he won seven of his first nine games.

But Chelsea are now on their worst run of form since 1912, which was the last time they lost five on the bounce without scoring, while their overall losing streak is their longest in the Premier League since November 1993 (a run of six).

Across each team's last nine games in the Premier League, only Tottenham (two) have won fewer points than Chelsea (five – W1 D2 L6).  

"Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season," the club said in a statement on their website.

"This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly. However, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards, with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future."

Overall, Rosenior lost 10 of his 23 games in charge of Chelsea in all competitions (W11 D2), finishing with a 47.8% win rate.

Chelsea's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League have suffered major blows in the last month, with the Opta supercomputer now giving them just a 1.4% chance of finishing in the top five.

Sixth still could be enough for a place in UEFA's premier competition if Aston Villa win the Europa League this season, but Chelsea's hopes of finishing there are rated at just 10.2%, behind Brighton's 36% likelihood.

Calum McFarlane will take interim charge of Chelsea until the end of the season, with the FA Cup clash with Leeds first up for him.

"As the club works to bring stability to the head coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment," Chelsea concluded in their statement.
