Marco Silva defended "top talent" Josh King following his early mistake against Brentford, though it did not prevent Fulham from victory at Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers made it back-to-back wins after overcoming the Bees 3-1 in a West London derby, recording their third straight league win over Brentford for only the second time in their history.

Fulham fell behind when King's reverse pass just outside the penalty area was intercepted by Mikkel Damsgaard, who subsequently put Brentford in front.

However, quickfire goals from Alex Iwobi and Harry Wilson turned the contest around, while a second-half own-goal from Ethan Pinnock secured all three points for the hosts.

And Silva was quick to leap to the defence of 18-year-old King.

"I like the way the players supported Josh straight away," the head coach said after King's team-mates consoled him immediately after the mistake. "It was a difficult moment for him. The reaction from him was top.

"He knows the trust we have in him, he's working very hard. He's a top talent. I like his maturity, too. I love how he's so humble and has the right mindset."

"The reaction was very good from the mistake. We created many problems for them. 

"Two [wins] in a row is very good for us, very difficult to achieve. The feeling is top; well-deserved. That’s the main thing. We were the best team from the first minute to the last one."

Meanwhile, Brentford have now lost all three of their Premier League away games this season, while their tally of four points is their lowest after the opening five games of a campaign in the competition.

They have also let in 10 goals so far, their most at this stage of a campaign in the competition. 

The Bees conceded twice in the space of 98 seconds when they were 1-0 up, and head coach Keith Andrews is well aware of the need for improvement.

"The basics of the game are important for me," he said. "The timing of goals wasn't good, and the manner of them was a bit disappointing.

"Clean sheets are important to us. We're very aware we need to address certain things and performance levels. We don't get too high when we win a game, and tonight, we're clearly not happy with conceding three goals.

"We need to address certain aspects of our game. The overall performance was disjointed. The final little bit of quality was lacking."
