Audi team principal Wheatley resigns with immediate effect
After less than a year in the job, Jonathan Wheatley has left his role as Audi team principal with immediate effect.
Audi have confirmed that Jonathan Wheatley has left his role as team principal with immediate effect.
Wheatley joined the team in April last year, when they were Kick Sauber prior to their transition to Audi, but has departed due to personal reasons.
He was formerly at Red Bull before making the switch to Sauber as team principal, and he enjoyed a positive 2025 season, in which driver Nico Hulkenberg achieved a maiden Formula One podium finish.
Audi also made a strong start to the 2026 campaign as Gabriel Bortoleto finished in the points at the Australian Grand Prix.
Wheatley has been linked with the team principal role at Aston Martin, where Adrian Newey is now said to be focusing primarily on the car's design.
"As it continues its journey towards the front of the grid, Audi Revolut F1 Team will implement significant changes to its senior management structure," read an Audi team statement.
"Due to personal reasons, Jonathan Wheatley will depart the team with immediate effect. The team thanks Jonathan for his contribution to the project and wishes him the best for his future endeavours.
