'We're not out of it yet' – Moyes insists Everton's European hopes are still alive
Everton are now without a win in five Premier League games, after they were twice pegged back by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
David Moyes feels Everton's hopes of securing European qualification are far from over, insisting "we're not out of it yet" despite their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
The Toffees missed the chance to move within two points of seventh-place Brighton, after they were twice pegged back at Selhurst Park.
Everton are now without a win in five Premier League games, their longest streak without success since a run of six between February and April 2025.
Moyes' side must take maximum points from their two remaining matches and hope for favours from elsewhere if they are to play in Europe next season, but their head coach is not giving up yet.
"It's amazing that we are actually talking about Everton possibly being in Europe with two games to go – and we're not out of it yet," he said. "It's getting tougher every game we're not winning.
"We did OK. We gave up some chances – the game could have been 4-4 or 5-5 at one point. We are trying to win at the moment, but we missed some big chances to make it 2-0.
"They did as well – but we had a chance to go 2-0, and we didn't take it. Credit to Crystal Palace, they stuck in."
The in-form Beto, who scored his fifth goal in as many games, rued a "missed opportunity", but also believes Everton are still in contention for European qualification.
"It is a little bit disappointing to get one point – but the game was really difficult. They had really good system. They have good players and a good manager. It is always difficult to come down here to play.
"We are still fighting. We need to keep going and try to win the next two games. You can say it was a missed opportunity, but we are still in it, so we just need to focus on the next game."
Meanwhile, despite beating Shakhtar Donetsk to reach the Conference League final in midweek, Palace are now without a win in four Premier League games.
Palace have won just one of their last six Premier League matches directly after they have played a midweek European match (D3 L2).
In fact, the Eagles have won just five of their last 12 matches across all competitions, with four of those victories coming in European competition.
Nevertheless, Oliver Glasner applauded the Eagles' character after they twice came from behind to earn a share of the spoils.
"I am pleased with the performance, especially in the second half," he said. "In the end, it felt like Everton played three days ago. We created so much pressure, created chances and missed a few.
"I am really proud of the team's effort today and the belief we had and also the mentality to play for a win. I think it was a huge performance."
"We came back two times, and I think we deserved that point," added Jean-Philippe Mateta, who climbed off the bench to score the hosts' second equaliser.
"We wanted to win today, and we nearly did. We were one point away and never gave up. That's why I'm happy to be with this team."
