Pereira describes display as 'worst yet' as Wolves crisis deepens
Underfire Wolves boss Vitor Pereira described his side's performance as the worst of his reign as they were beaten 3-0 by Fulham.
Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira admitted his side’s display against Fulham was possibly "the worst performance" of his reign as their start to the season reached a new low with a heavy 3-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
They went behind after just nine minutes as Ryan Sessegnon was put clean through by Raul Jimenez and swept a finish past Sam Johnstone, while the visitors went down to 10 men before the end of the half as Emmanuel Agbadou was adjudged to have brought down Josh King as the last man.
Fulham completely dominated the second half, as Harry Wilson doubled their advantage with a sweeping effort before Yerson Mosquera compounded a miserable afternoon for the visitors by scoring an own goal.
Wolves are already eight points adrift of safety and have become the first top flight side to go winless in their first 10 league games in two consecutive seasons, with Pereira acknowledging that his side were second best in every single department.
He said to BBC Sport: “Tactically, technically, physically, we weren’t good enough. I don’t know why. We all need to take responsibility for this. [It was] maybe the worst performance from my team."
Wolves mustered just one shot in the second half and were dominated in all departments, leading to negative chanting from the Wolves fans towards Pereira, but he refused to be drawn on the situation.
He said: "Today I'm not proud about our work. I don't need anybody to judge my work, I judge my work, I judge myself.
"I know my team can play at a better level. Today it was not the case. I'm not worried about myself. I'm worried about my team. What we showed today, we need to talk about it. I cannot accept what we did today."
Fulham boss Marco Silva conceded that it was a crucial win for his side after four league defeats on the bounce, with the Cottagers flourishing in the second half.
"It was a very important one for us,” Silva told BBC Sport. “We want to make this place our fortress and we won again.
“We kept ourselves in the game and the second half we were better than the first. There was a bit of tension in the team, it was very important for us to win. Second half we controlled the game much better."
Sessegnon continued his scoring run against Wolves with the opener here, his third in six matches against them, and Silva believes his early goal was crucial to setting the tone for the afternoon.
He said: "I thought in the first half we looked a bit anxious. The goal gave the calmness we needed and from that we built our win."
Kevin was handed his first league start and ended the match with the most touches inside the opposition box, with Silva confident that there is plenty more to come from his record signing.
"Kevin is going to be about the end product,” said Silva.
“He knows how he will have an impact in the game.
“After the dribbling has to come the end product.”
